Building Information Management (BIM) is a process that involves creating and managing digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places. It’s essentially a digital database of every aspect of a building project, from its conception to its demolition. BIM integrates architecture, engineering, and construction data into one cohesive system.
At its core, BIM involves the creation and use of detailed 3D models that contain information about every aspect of a building, including its geometry, spatial relationships, geographic information, quantities, and properties of building components. This information can include everything from the structural framework to the plumbing and electrical systems, and even data related to sustainability and energy efficiency.
